What Does "OCP/ORV3 Compliant" Actually Mean?
"OCP compliant" gets used loosely, but it isn't one thing. A connector can be designed to conform to an Open Compute Project specification, or it can carry one of two formal, trademarked recognition tiers — and most people searching for this term don't realize the difference matters for sourcing decisions.

The Three Tiers of OCP Compliance
Informal conformance — a product designed to meet an OCP-published open specification. No OCP approval process is required to describe a product this way; it's a manufacturer's conformance claim, not an OCP credential.
OCP Accepted™ — a formal designation requiring compliance with the applicable OCP-accepted specification, open-sourced design files, and meeting OCP's applicable core-tenet requirements. Open to any organization, member or not.
OCP Inspired™ — a formal designation with the same specification-compliance bar as Accepted, but limited to Gold, Silver, or Platinum OCP member organizations.

ORV3 Connector Interface Requirements: The Checklist
When qualifying a connector against the ORV3 spec, check it against:
Busbar interface — conforms to the Open Rack V3 Power Output Connector specification (Rev 2.0)
IT gear input connector — conforms to the Open Rack V3 IT Gear Input Connector specification (Rev 1.6)
Power delivery path — verify the connector's voltage and current ratings against the specific ORV3 power architecture and system design
Current and thermal performance — check continuous and peak current, contact resistance, temperature rise, and any applicable derating requirements
Blind-mate mechanical engagement — supports tool-free rack insertion without manual alignment, while meeting the required mechanical envelope and engagement requirements
High-power variants — for higher-current deployments, check the applicable ORV3 high-power connector specification, including the HPR 2000A DC Power Output Connector specification
How Do I Select Connectors for OCP Hardware?
Start by confirming which generation you're designing for (ORV2 vs. ORV3 — they are not interchangeable), then confirm whether you need the busbar-side or IT-gear-side connector, and cross-check the current and voltage rating against your power shelf's actual design.
Next, verify the mechanical requirements, including blind-mate engagement, alignment, retention, and mating-cycle requirements. Finally, review the supplier's drawings, datasheet, test data, and applicable OCP recognition or compliance documentation.
