Color-Coded Mechanical Keying Matrix
The foundation of the FAKRA standard is the integration of an SMB 50 Ohm subminiature coaxial insert inside a specialized, injection-molded plastic housing. The outer plastic shell features an advanced color-coded and mechanically keyed matrix. FAKRA specifications define a series of distinct alphabetical keys (from Key A through Key Z), where each key is assigned a specific color and a unique geometric alignment track.

The internal plastic slots make it physically impossible to mate a plug with an incorrect key layout, completely eliminating human miswiring errors on high-speed factory assembly lines.

The plastic housings feature an integrated, high-retention primary locking latch that snaps down over a matching wedge on the receptacle shell, generating an absolute mechanical lock capable of resisting pullout forces exceeding 110 Newtons.
To handle the constant, low-frequency vibrations experienced while driving over rough terrain, the internal SMB metal inserts are equipped with secondary stabilization rings. This ensures that the internal gold-plated contacts remain perfectly mated without experiencing micro-disconnections or contact fretting corrosion over a 15-year automotive vehicle lifespan.
Environmental Sealing
FAKRA architectures are tightly optimized to manage environmental hazards. Connectors deployed in exposed vehicle zones (such as bumper-mounted radar blocks or side-mirror cameras) integrate internal silicone perimeter seals, achieving complete IP67 or IP69K fluid isolation.
